Today, we join the global Church in mourning the loss of our Holy Father, Pope Francis. It is with deep sorrow, but also with Christian hope, that we share in this moment of grief and remembrance. As the 266th successor of Saint Peter and the spiritual shepherd of our Church, Pope Francis led with humility, mercy, and a profound love for all people. His life was a testament to the Gospel call to serve others, especially the poor, the forgotten, and those on the margins of society.
As a Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School, we are called to live lives of compassion, simplicity, humility, trust, and zeal. Pope Francis exemplified these values throughout his papacy, consistently pointing us toward a deeper relationship with Christ and a more faithful witness to the Gospel. In his words and in his presence, he reminded us of the importance of prayer, service, and building a Church rooted in love, community, and hope. His legacy encourages each of us to reflect the joy and light of Christ in our daily lives and to walk humbly with God and one another.
We invite our entire Saint John’s community to join in this prayer for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis from the Roman Missal:
O God, faithful rewarder of souls,
grant that your departed servant Pope Francis,
whom you made the successor of Peter
and shepherd of your Church,
may happily enjoy forever in your presence in heaven
the mysteries of your grace and compassion,
which he faithfully ministered on earth.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, forever and ever. Amen.
Let us find comfort in his words:
“Let us pray for each other so that we may persevere in listening to the word of God, in brotherhood, and in helping those in need.” — Pope Francis
Our students, faculty, and staff will have the opportunity to remember Pope Francis in prayer upon our return from break.
May we carry forward Pope Francis’s example in the way we live, teach, and love at Saint John’s.
