ABOUT SAINT JOHN’S HIGH SCHOOL
Saint John's High School, located in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, is a Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for boys in grades 7-12. Enrollment for the 2024-2025 academic year is 900 students, representing more than 70 cities/towns within Massachusetts and Rhode Island.  Known for its commitment to forming well-rounded young men, Saint John's offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum alongside a strong emphasis on spiritual and moral development, inspired by the values of humility, trust, simplicity, compassion, and zeal. The school provides a transformative experience by nurturing students' spiritual, intellectual, physical, and creative growth. Saint John's has a vibrant campus life that includes 17 athletic teams, over 50 extracurricular activities, and numerous opportunities for community service, encouraging students to embrace their faith while preparing them for success in competitive colleges and universities. 

A hallmark of Saint John's is its deep-rooted sense of community and commitment to diversity.  The school represents  35% students of color and approximately 40% of the student body receives financial assistance. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Saint John’s High School is responsible for the overall financial leadership and management of the school. This includes providing timely and accurate financial reporting, ensuring the integrity of all accounting information, and overseeing the school’s annual audit process.

Beyond financial oversight, the CFO has management responsibilities for several operational areas. Responsibilities include managing all human resources functions, assisting with the administration of student financial aid, overseeing buildings and grounds, information technology, and revenue-generating auxiliary services. The CFO has a total of five direct reports including the Director of Information Technology, the Director of Buildings and Grounds, the Director of Financial Aid, and a three-person business office team.

The CFO will regularly prepare and present financial reports to the Head of School, Board of Trustees, and Board committees, providing analysis and guidance to support strategic decision-making. In addition, the CFO interacts with a broad range of stakeholders, including donors, prospective donors, parents, and prospective families, representing the school’s financial interests and priorities.
The CFO reports directly to the Head of School and is a key member of the administrative leadership team. Specific responsibilities and essential job functions will be discussed in detail with candidates during the interview process.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
The successful candidate is committed to Catholic education and will be able to demonstrate that he or she has a proven track record of integrity, flexibility, collaboration, and transparency in the workplace. He or she should have a customer service orientation, be a creative problem solver, and be able to make effective presentations.

- At a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Management, Accounting, or a related field.

- At least five years of experience in a financial/Accounting leadership role. Comfort and experience working in an environment with great attention to the stewardship of resources.

- A pre-employment background check will be conducted on the successful candidate, including a criminal history check, and confirmation of prior employment and educational background.

- Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles applicable to educational institutions and experience preparing financial statements in accordance therewith.

ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- One or more advanced degrees in a related discipline, such as accounting, finance, business, or non-profit management.

- One or more professional certifications such as a CPA or similar credentials.

- Direct experience in non-profit accounting and management is preferred

- Experience with preparing audited financial statements.

- Experience in managing the Human Resources function.

Salary will be competitive with schools and other non-profits of a similar size. In addition to common employee benefits including health insurance subsidized by Saint John’s and a 403(b) plan, the school also provides a generous tuition remission program for children of employees.
