Saint John's Names Head Varsity Basketball Coach, John Ginnity
It is with great excitement that Saint John's High School announces the appointment of John Ginnity as its Head Varsity Basketball Coach for the 2024-2025 season.
Ginnity, a Fitchburg native, attended St. Bernard’s High School (Fitchburg) where he was inducted into their Athletics Hall of Fame. After graduating St. Bernard’s, he attended Clark University where he pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and competed with their basketball team - serving as both a Captain and earning the title of Most Valuable Player. In his professional career, Ginnity has played international basketball in Ireland for the Northstar Basketball Club and served as the Head Coach for “Playing for Peace” before beginning his coaching career here in Central Massachusetts. Over the past two decades, he has coached and cultivated the success of student-athletes at Assumption University, Clark University, Framingham State University, Worcester Academy and Burncoat High School.

His passion for the game, commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court, and authentic enthusiasm for our school’s mission prepare him well for taking on this important role in our school community,” reflects Head of School Benjamin Horgan. “We are excited to see how Mr. Ginnitty will build on the strong tradition of Saint John’s basketball program and the positive impact he will have on our student-athletes.”
“Mr. Ginnity brings a combination of positive enthusiasm, experience, and a deep understanding of basketball to the Saint John's community,” shares Saint John’s Interim Principal Christopher Cowan. “We are confident that he will successfully lead our basketball program into the future while continuing to honor the rich Saint John’s history and winning tradition.”
“As an experienced player and coach at both the high school and collegiate level, I look forward to working with Mr. Ginnity and know that he will serve our players well,” notes Saint John’s Athletic Director, Michael Mead. “He will bring a level of energy and excitement to our program. His understanding of the game and ability to coach and inspire young men is unquestionable and will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the Saint John’s Basketball program.”
