Transformational Gift Launches Jeffrey R. Jay ’76 Endowed Accounting and Finance Program at Saint John's High School
Saint John's High School is thrilled to announce the establishment of the Jeffrey R. Jay ’76 Endowed Accounting and Finance Program, made possible by a generous donation from Dr. Jeffrey Jay, an esteemed alumnus of the school. This gift, aimed at enhancing academic excellence and fostering future business leaders, marks a significant milestone in the school's history, embodying leadership, transformational impact, generosity, and empowerment.
Dr. Jeffrey Jay, Founder and Managing Partner at Great Point Partners, expressed his enthusiasm about launching the new Accounting and Finance program.
“I'm very excited to catalyze the new Accounting and Finance program and enhance the strong academic offerings at Saint John's High School,” said Dr. Jay. “Adding opportunities for students interested in business to learn from outstanding teachers, compete for scholarships and connect with visiting professors from some of the nation's top undergraduate business programs adds an important new dimension to the curriculum. The program will enhance student competitiveness in the college application process. I wish this experience existed when I was a Saint John's student."

The Jeffrey R. Jay ’76 Endowed Accounting and Finance Program features three components, each designed to enrich the educational experience:
- Jeffrey R. Jay ’76 Lecturers in Accounting and Finance (Jay Lecturers): Distinguished professors and associate professors will visit Saint John's to deliver lectures in business classes and hold open sessions for students pursuing undergraduate degrees in business.
- Jeffrey R. Jay ’76 Accounting and Finance Scholars (Jay Scholars): Scholarships will be awarded to eight outstanding seniors enrolled in accounting and business courses at Saint John's. This prestigious honor will bolster their college applications and recognize their dedication to academic excellence.
- Jeffrey R. Jay ’76 Accounting and Finance Chair (Jay Chair): The program will support the salary of a specialized teacher at Saint John's, tasked with delivering courses in accounting and finance while overseeing related extracurricular activities. The Saint John's administration has appointed Joe Doherty '83 as the inaugural Jay Chair. A Saint John's and West Point graduate, Joe has served on the Saint John's faculty since 2020 after a 30-year career as a leader and executive in the healthcare and medical technologies industry. He remains active in those fields as a board member for several corporations and initiatives.
Since its founding in 1898, academic excellence, rigor, and preparation have been a hallmark of a Saint John’s High School and Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School education. Dr. Jay’s philanthropy and the creation of this program honor that legacy and connect directly to the “Excellence in Teaching and Learning” priority in the school’s recently released Purpose, People and Preparation: A Strategic Plan for Saint John’s High School 2023-2028.

With offerings such as Economics, Business Ethics, and Principles of Accounting and Finance, Saint John’s proudly enrolls more than 100 high school students per academic year in a business-related course.
