Wrestling is a winter sport. It begins on the 1st Monday after Thanksgiving and generally runs thru mid to late February.
  • Is wrestling hard?

Yes, but most things in life that are worth it, usually are. Wrestling will challenge you physically as well as mentally. You will be amazed at what you will be capable of accomplishing if you make the commitment. You will get out of wrestling what you put into it!
  • What should I do to get ready for the wrestling season?

If you have wrestled before, there are many great off-season clubs in the area that run fall programs. If you have never wrestled before, you can prepare by running and weight lifting (3-5 times per week). YOU SHOULD START NOW!
  • When are the meets?

Generally, meets take place on Wednesday nights & Saturdays. Often, Saturday competitions start early in the morning and can run into the evening. Please refer to the schedule for particular information regarding meet dates & times.
  • Will I make the team?

Yes. Wrestling is a "no-cut" sport. All team members will have the opportunity to compete at either the Varsity or JV level against similar sized and like experienced opponents.
  • Am I too big/small for wrestling?

If you're big, you can wrestle. If you're small you can wrestle. If you're short, tall, athletic, un-athletic, played sports your whole life, never played a sport before, you can wrestle.
  • What equipment do I need?

A pair of wrestling shoes. A limited selection can often be found at Dick's Sporting Goods. Many retailers offer a wide selection on-line. I bought a new pair at Kohls.com they had a decent selection and they were reasonably priced. In addition, you will need to purchase a wrestling headgear. There are many styles and price points. I only ask that the primary color be white, black, red or a combination there of. Headgear can be purchased online through many retailers. I recommend Worldwide Sport Supply www.wwsport.com
