Both schools are founded on Catholic tradition which encourages spiritual growth, commitment to community and the power of good sportsmanship. In this light, Saint Peter-Marian President Christopher J. Cummings and Saint John’s Headmaster Alex Zequeira announce the very first captains’ luncheon to take place on Monday, November 21st where team captains, coaches and school administrators will celebrate this time-honored Central Massachusetts competition.
"In recognition of our longstanding Thanksgiving Day tradition, we look forward to fostering conversation connected to best practices of athletic captains, and principles of good sportsmanship at this inaugural event” explains SPM President Christopher J. Cummings. “While we reflect on past contests, we will also remember the contributions of the distinguished football alumnus who have represented our storied institutions in years past".
“In the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play that has always been a part of the Saint John's athletic program and in this wonderful tradition and community event with Saint Peter-Marian, we are excited to begin this new tradition as part of the oldest Catholic school football rivalry in the nation,” remarked Saint John’s Headmaster Alex Zequeira. “There is a great spirit and connection between our two schools, and this further strengthens that bond and commitment to our like missions to bring Christ to life in young people.”
The November 24th Thanksgiving matchup is open to the public. Tickets are available the day of the game for $8, and for $6 at the Athletic Office.
